Tribute from Major Guy Jaseph (Corey's Brother)

Letter from Major Guy Jaseph,

CoreyŐs brother, read by Lynne Jaseph at DaveŐs Memorial Service:

First let me apologize for not being here in person. Unfortunately, the needs of the Air Force sometimes outweigh personal wants and desires, but my heart is with you in this time of sorrow.

I was fortunate to know David Matthew Zampino for over 20 years. I met Dave when he was in high school with Corey and noticed immediately he was a caring and very intelligent person. He and I had an interesting relationship. I felt he always considered me as CoreyŐs ŇkidÓ brother and I spent a lot of time trying to prove myself.

He was quiet and spent much of his time reading or working on his computer. We didnŐt have a lot in common. All this changed when Dave started flying his helicopter. When we would talk about flying, this normally stoic individual would light up and become very animated. I remember calling Corey one time to discuss something and Dave answered and we talked for around 45 minutes on all aspects of flying. Prior to that, our longest conversation was 15 minutes.

He was a great pilot. I was lucky to fly with him on one occasion, when he took me along the coast, showing me the sights of Santa Cruz. He worked hard at earning his different aeronautical ratings and had a very promising future. All this was cut short last Thursday for reasons that we cannot understand. One thing is for certain; as a pilot with over 4,000 hours, I know who has talent and who doesnŐt. Dave had it.

I remember back when I graduated from Air Force Pilot training. I pulled my mother aside and said that if something should ever happen to me, to know I died doing what I loved to do. I believe Dave felt the same way. He passed away in a place he adored doing his favorite activity. Dave is still flying, but now he's with the angels.
