Dave was my best friend as well as my business partner. He had the kind of quirky humor that I most enjoy, blending an appreciation of the surreal with mild surprise at the extravagance and variety of human foolishness.
Dave was always eager to learn, confident that he could master anything that he set his mind to. As far as I could tell, this stance was entirely accurate. He was a fine engineer, programmer, Unix Sysadin, manager, entrepreneur, pilot, caver and overall great buddy. He was always willing (with indignant griping as appropriate to the situation) to stretch and grow.
He was gracious in success, and philosophical in the face of setbacks. He was true, in the classic sense. A man of principal, and strength.
After a brush with death in a freak car accident a few years ago, Dave became fond of quoting Benjamin Frankin: "Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that's the stuff life is made of. " He took this to heart, and reading Corey's memories reminded me how many of the things that he cared about he actually succeeded in doing.
Dave perished way too young, and leaves an aching gap in our lives, but he lived his life to the fullest, and died a fine death, flying in the gorgeous wilderness that he loved, enjoying the success of his new business. Way to go Dave!
